Physical Education Department Courses
Adapted Physical Education / Grade 9–12
An individualized course for students who are approved by the individualized Education Program (IEP) Team and who are unable to participate in regular physical education. This course stresses movement activities planned to promote maximum optimum motor development. It also provides the student with special activities to help correct or improve his/her condition.

Basic Team Sports AB / Grade 9
The major emphasis is to enable the student to experiment and further refine the skills needed in one or more of the activities offered. The course covers the physical and mechanical principles of movement, their interrelationship, and their effects on the performer.

Basic Team Sports AB / Grade 10
The major emphasis is to expand skills acquired in Grade 9 and to teach or refine further the skills needed in activities offered. The course covers the physical and mechanical principles of movement and their effects on the performer, and it also provides for acquisition of skills necessary to participate on an advanced level.

Basketball Team / Grade 9–12
The course offers students opportunities to develop and refine the basic skills of passing, catching, and to study the skills of pertinent shooting and rebounding. It covers fundamental skills, courtesy, strategy, and practice in drills and in interscholastic competition.

Body Conditioning / Grade 9–12
To provide opportunity for students to develop muscular strength and power through progressive weight training. Includes fundamental skill techniques, safety rules, and systemic methods of progressive body building.

Cheerleading / Grade 9–12
Provides an opportunity for skilled students to develop routines and to perform before an audience. The course helps students to develop leadership skills and increase their knowledge of techniques to promote enthusiasm. Students will be taking part in cheerleading competitons.

Cross Country Team / Grade 9–12

Dance Choreography and Production / Grade 9–12
Enables students to use the body creatively as a means of communication and expression. The instruction encourages the student, through movement, to explore time, space, force, design, and rhythm. Students have an opportunity to develop and improve flexibility, strength, endurance, balance, and coordination, as well as dance techniques.

Drill Team / Grade 9–12
The major emphasis of this course is to provide the student with an opportunity to develop movement patterns by putting together basic marching maneuvers in new and unusual arrangements. The course provides an opportunity for the student to perform before an audience and in competitions.

Marching Dynamics / Grade 9–12

Off-Season Baseball / Grade 9–12
A comprehensive class stressing the fundamental techniques and mechanics of baseball. Included is a specific weight training and conditioning unit designed for off-season conditioning and strength development.

Off-Season Softball / Grade 9–12

Soccer Team (Boys / Girls) / Grade 9–12
The emphasis is to gain skills and knowledge of fundamental techniques, practice in drills and game skills, offensive and defensive tactics and knowledge of the rules of soccer. Students will participate in interscholastic competitions.

Softball Team / Grade 9–12
This course provides opportunities for students to gain skills and knowledge in playing softball. The course teaches throwing, batting, catching, and running skills. It includes individual skills development, game strategy, knowledge of rules, safety rules and regulations, duties and specific skills of each player's position and practices in drills and interscholastic competitions.

Tennis
This course enables students to develop and refine the skills of tennis. The course covers fundamental skills, rules, scoring, etiquette, strategy, court positioning, equipment selection, and game play. In the advanced course, more emphasis is placed on refining strokes, strategy, and tournament play.

Interscholastic competition provides students with daily drills, play, conditioning exercise, individual playoffs, and team playoffs.

Track and Field Team / Grade 9–12
This course enables students to develop and refine their skills in various types of track and field events. The course helps students to develop and refine the skills of running, jumping, and throwing. In track events, these skills are used in sprints, distance running, hurdles, and relay events, in high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, discus, javelin, and shot put competition.

Volleyball Team (Boys / Girls) / Grade 9–12
This course provides opportunities for students to gain skill and knowledge in volleyball. It covers fundamental skills, courtesy, strategy, and practice in drills andin interscholastic competitions.

Wrestling Team / Grade 9–12
This course offers students opportunities to develop and refine the skills of wrestling. It provides training in physical contact of a competitive nature. It promotes mastery of fear that may arise from anticipation of violent personal contact. Included are takedowns, breakdowns, reverses and escapes, pinning combinations, counter for takedowns, scoring and rules, care of the mat, safety precautions, and offensive and defensive strategies. Students participate in interscholastic competitions.
